Princess Diana was killed by negligent driving

The Virginian Pilot recently published an article written by the New York Times regarding the death of Princess Diana.  According to the New York Times, after six months of hearings and testimony by nearly 300 witnesses, a jury in Britain found that Princess Diana and her boyfriend, Dodi al-Fayed were killed by the negligent driving of their chauffeur and the paparazzi that pursued their vehicle.

At the time of the accident, Diana and Dodi were being driven by Henri Paul, their chauffer.  Mr. Paul was attempting to elude the photographers who had camped out in front of the hotel when he drove off with Diana and Dodi.  Reports indicate that Mr. Paul was under the influence of alcohol when he crashed the Mercedes into a pillar after entering the Pont de L'Alama underpass.  Mr. Paul was traveling at approximately 60 miles per hour, nearly two times the speed limit on that road.
