Do have spouse go to a family doctor or specialist besides company selected doctor.
DO locate all pertinent insurance/disability/legal papers as listed on first page.
DO NOT speak to any Rail claim agent except to obtain their name and phone number for purposes of your records. Give NO information out.
DO NOT give any recorded or written "statements" of what occurred to any claim agent (you or your spouse).
DO understand the Railroad will do surveillance/snooping of you, your spouse, and your home immediately. DO NOT allow injured spouse to try anything inconsistent with injuries. Be careful of scams: flat tires, engine trouble, etc.
DO be sure spouse or you or lawyer contacts any known witnesses (get phone numbers/addresses) immediately to confirm defective rail equipment/unsafe work practice, etc.
DO preserve any work clothing, equipment, work papers, medical devices/braces, or other evidence-provide to designated lawyer.
DO determine if injury occurred nearby: Can coworker/designated lawyer get photos/video of scene or equipment?
DO save/obtain all phone numbers/addresses/specialties of all medical providers to provide to lawyers.
DO check yourself or have your lawyer confirm that railroad DOES NOT have a medical records release allowing it to call spouse's doctor and/or to get medical records! Notify key medical providers that confidential records may be released only through lawyer permission.
